Task 2 29-09-2015 Introduction to hair : Curly Blow Dry

Today was my first indroduction lesson in hair dressing at West Thames College. I have previously studied hair as part of my Theatrical, Special Effects Media makeup and Hair because of this i have brief knowledge on hair but i am looking forward to developing my skills futher.

Kanika our lecturer showed us a demonstration of which brushes to use and how to set up our working area following all health and safety procedures. She performed a demonstration on how to create a curly, bouncy blow dry using a roundbrush. Once we watched the demonstration as a class we were then asked to try and achieve this look ourselves.

To begin we needed sectioning clips, a comb and a medium round brush. I had to wet down my head just with water, section the hair in to 4 equal sections ensuring the hair wasn't too wet. Once i had sectioned the hair i had to bring down an even amout of hair from the nape of the head. I begin with the middle of the head i started by placing the brush under the section of the hair to ensure i gave the root some lift and volume i then began to blow dry to about half way in the section this begins to create volume hair. When blow drying i always blow downward to close the cuticle as it creates a smooth finsih. My sections were no bigger than the width of my brush this also makes each section easier to dry. When the strand is semi dry i then began to curl it around the brush up toward the head to wind the hair around the barrel. I repretaed this step until the hair was fully curled. I set the style with a blast of cold air from the hair dryer. When blow drying hair make sure the hair is fully dried before moving to the next section, especially from the root. This gives an even finish and completes the look. I repeated this on each section of the hair. unforunatly i struggle with this hair style and only managed to do 2 layers. I will make sure i practice this style to create a full head of Bouncy curls.
