Task 2 05-10-2015 Foundation application - Dewy skin

During our current trends lesson today I learnt about skin preparation this covered different skin types including Dry, Oily, Combination, Dehydrated, Pigmentation and Skin conditions. We also looked at skin undertones and how this effects makeup application. Finally we looked at how to create a foundation application with a dewy skin finish

From this lesson I learnt that a skin undertone there are 3 different main types warm (known as yellow or olive) Cool (known as pink, red or blue-ish) and a neutral tone. One way to determine an undertone is to look at the views if they appear bluer you have a cool undertone and more green determines a warmer undertone. I now also have a better understanding of determining someone’s skin type.

  • Dry

  • Oily

  • Combination

  • Dehydrated

  • Skin pigmentation

  • Skin conditions

During our lesson today we had a Makeup artist who works within the industry called Sian. She taught us skin preparation and how to produce a dewy skin foundation look on a model. Sian set up her makeup area and showed us the general product she would use to create this look on a model

She demonstrated before any treatment or personal contact is carried out you need to consider health safety and hygiene while setting up the treatment area and continuously throughout. We then watched her complete a demonstration on Rosa creating a dewy skin finish. She explained the products she used and why

Once we watched the demonstration as a class we were then asked to complete a dewy skin look on one of our class members. For this lesson i worked with Kristina

To begin i set up my work area with couch roll on the surface, set up my brushes, i used a bowl with a tissue placed inside for any disposables. I made sure all my bags were tidy and out of the way and that my model was comfortable.

Next i cleansed my hands with antiseptic cleanser before touching my model. I cleansed kristians skin using kaeso cleaner with cotton wool pads and kaeso moisturiser. While cleansing the face i used a effleurage technique to encourage the blood flow i finished by rubbing any excess product off with a cotton wool bud.

The next stage priming the skin but for a glossy skin look this isn't as necessary and you need to be careful of product choice. If you feel you need to prime for a glossy skin look just apply the product to the nose and chin.

Then i colour matched i chose 3 colours Mac Face and Body C1,C3, and C4. I applied all 3 in a line both on the cheek and forehead. Where possible also use the models chest if you don’t do this the models body may be a completely different colour to the face which can look unprofessional. For the cheek i decided to use C1 to highlight the areas and on the forehead i applied C3. I buffed the product into the skin building on the colour application. I used the lightest colour c1 on the central zone (cheeks, chin and forehead). For the forehead and temple area i used C3 i used the buffing method again to create a dewy look. I also lightly applied some of this product to the T zone area to give a light contour. For a slightly more defined contour I used C4.

I concealed around the nose and under the eye area using N2 a warmer colour. I used a smaller brush for the smaller more delicate areas.

I then reapplied the lighter foundation colour to the high points the nose and brow bone this was to bring these forward.

I completed a final skin check making sure all of the foundation was blended and buffed into the skin well.

To finish my look i added a MAC highlighter to add shine to the cheek bones, nose, cupids bow and slightly on the forehead. My final look appeared glowing and dewy which is the exact look i was trying to create.

Products

MAC Face and Body C1, C3, and C4

MAC full coverage NW2

MAC Highlighter powder

I felt happy with the way kristians skin looked and appeared glowing to the human eye face to face. However i was slightly disappointed with how it looked on camera, i have learnt this is something i need to work on and i need to continuously photograph my work to check how it looks both face to face and via camera. I was happy with the overall coverage of the skin and i think i achieve the desired look. However i felt i need to conceal the undereye area more and add more highlighter to the face to give the dewy look on camera screen on face value i applied enough highlighter but not for a camera view. I found the colour correcting challenging mainly the under eye area for this look. I was lucky my model had very few blemishes to cover.

This is another skin look i completed. For this look i am happy with the highlighter but i feel i still need to work on concealing problem areas. This is something i am going to work on every week.
