Purple rollers
Hairspray
I have previously been taught Brickwork setting in my last college course at Petroc so this was a chance for me to update my skills. Hair styling is an area i struggle with so need lots of patience and practice
Brickwork setting follows the patteren very simular to a brick wall layout, hense the name.
Step by step
To begin I wet down my block head using warm water. I placed a towel around the head to carry it back to my work station ensure it didn't drip on the floor. This could lead to slips and falls which is very dangerous.
Next i combed though the hair, away from the face removing any knots with a rake comb.
After this i selected the correct rollers for my head. My block head has long hair so i decided to use purple rollers. I tried the smaller white rollers but my heads hair was too long and didn't fit
I started with the front middle section of the head and sectioned a strip of hair the same length as the roller. I held at a 45 angle placed the roller at the tip of the hair and rolled down towards the head ensuring all the hair was wrapped securely in the roller.
I place rollers either side of this using the same process overlapping the rollers
When starting my next layer i made sure the rollers were not in line so it created a brick wall effect and all the rollers over lapped. I did this all over the head
Once i had finished my Brickset. I placed my head under the hood drier on full heat for 20mins. If this was a client i would make sure they were happy with the temperature and comfortable throughout the process.
Next i allowed the hair to cool before removing the rollers then the desired looked in dressed out this could be an updo or left down
For my look i wanted to create a Vertical roll so i brushed out my curls using a dressing brush
Iwas happy with the overall finish of my brick set. I have areas i need to make improvements on. One being my timing, i need to make sure I’m working to a professional working time scale to create this type of look. I took over half an hour to set my block head which as professional standards is too long. I believe the more i practice this hair style the faster and neater i will become. I also feel i need to work on making sure all of the hair is in my rollers and is neat and tidy. I had a few strands of hair that weren't completely around the rollers which could affect the end result of my hair. The main advantage and reason brickwork setting is popular is because the roller marks are less obvious
