Task 2 02-11-15 Editorial full face and smokey eye

For today’s lesson we had Braka and Holly. Holly is now our teacher for this lesson which is brilliant. Branka began today’s lesson by carrying out a demo for a full face coverage and a Smokey eye. Branka used Jo as a model to create this look and the finished look although only half a face was incredible. It was great to see the difference. Once she had finished the first look which was a Smokey eye and nude lip she then vamped the look up in less than 4 minutes to a wet glossy eye and dark lips. I love this look i like to wear a smokey eye on myself.

Branka showed us step by step how she would create this look starting with the eyes to prevent any fall out runining the skin and resulting in saving time.

Once she had finished the eyes she showed us to apply full coverage foundation contour and highlighting as go rather than a full face of foundation with a contour applied on top. This is a great tip and can save alot of time.

Next she powdered the areas needed such as the nose, under eyes and chin

On to the brows Branka used consealer which is a new thecniques for me but i believe it worked really well. She used the Derma pallete and Mac Brow gel and finished by setting with a light shade of powder

After the finihsed the brows she highlighted the whole face using MUA highlighter. I love this finish. She also used under the brow and inner corner of the eye and buffed in with a buffing brush

Branka applied mascara to the lashes using a fan brush

Added a pinkish blush to the apple of the cheeks

To finish she applied a nude lip creating the colour from lipstick and left over foundation. She buffed the products in to the lip and also used her fingers to disperse the product

Once she completed the first look she showed us how to vamp this look up in about 4 minuets.

She applied Vaseline to the eyelids to create a glossy effect. She used the 2 darkest colours in the MAC pallete ( 1.2) then she lined the lip with ? to create clean sharpe edges ensure the inner corners of the lips are coloured aswell. It can be very obvious if this is not done and leaves the look unfinished.

Today i began by setting up my work area with Products, brushes and pot for disposables. I made sure i followed all health and safety procedures, making sure all my kit and brushes are clean, when preparing my model i will check my models skin for infection, establish if she has an allergies to the products. I will also make sure my bags are all away to prevent tripping and falls and check my model is comfortable. I will make sure im professional at all times.

Step by step

I began by prepping my models skin. She has no allergies or skin infection

I started my look with the smokey eye. This was to prevent fall out ruining any foundation on the skin as black is extremly hard to remove.I began by using MAC Blacktrack over the eyelid. Lifting the brow and making sure it is against the lash line and up to the crease

Next i softened the edges with a blending brush. Buffing the product in circular motions. I added a second layer of BlackTrack to create a more intense colour

I added eyeliner to the lower water line. Making sure i removed any product which had dropped ( luckily i didn't need remove any product)

I went back in with the Blacktrack on the upper lash line lifing the brow ensuring i worked the product into the lashes

I pre

ssed Mac Carbon over the eyelid covering the areas eyelid covering the areas which I’d previously coloured with liner up to the crease. I used a taupe colour and buffed the product under the brow highlighting the area. Then i used dark brown in the crease in a round motion using a fluffy brush. I brown softens the blend from the black to the lighter taupe colour. I made sure the product was well blended and went back in the taupe to soften the blend. Removing an product fall out under the eye with a cotton pad

I applied NW35 to the areas i wanted to highlight: using a C shape from brow, on the chin, above the jawline and nose

I used NW45 in the areas i wanted to contour: Jawline, sides of the nose, just below cheek bones, temples. I applied this using a flat foundation brush next i brushed all the products into the skin with a buffing fluffy brush making sure it was well blended with no harsh lines or colour difference. This colour wasn't dark enough for a contour so i added a small amount Pam CH.2 to the NW45 making the colour a few shades darker and reapplied to the contour areas

I powdered under the eyes, nose, forehead and chin the area which tend to shine using stageline transulent powder

Next on the brows I used D15 and D16 from my derma pallete to fill in the shape of the brow. I used the mac clear gel brow to brush up and shape the hairs into place

I didn't blusher the cheeks as i ran out of time but i don't feel i needed it as the contour provided warmth

To finish i used a mixture of MAC Pretty please and please me on the lip mixed with some of the left over NW35 product i had left over from my highlighting to create a nude lip.

Here is my final look

I really enjoyed today’s lesson. It was the first time i have been taught how to do a strong editorial Smokey eye. It was the first time i have used Mac Blacktrack i liked the product but found it dried very quickly which meant i had to work fast. When doing a full face i will apply one eye at a time and blend straight after application. It wasn't quite dark enough with one layer of Blacktrack on the eyelid so i added another to deepen the colour. I learnt about the product from the first application so on my second application i blended the edges straight away to soften the look as my first layer dried quickly it wasn't blended as well. I was happy with the shape of the Smokey eye and the edges were blended out well and seamlessly.

Once i had finished my look and taken photos i found a few bits i would like to improve on. I felt i could go a lot darker with the colour on the eyes especially on the model i used today i also would have added more eyeliner to the waterline and upper lash line to create a more bold striking effect. I also wasn't happy with my mascara application my model had a lot of eyelash glue bonded to her lashes which made the application of mascara very difficult and we were unable to remove the excess glue during the lesson.

I was pleased with my skin coverage but again a first i had a few issues with colour matching and felt my highlighter was too light making the skin look slightly grey because of this i added so NW45 to warm the colour and then had to intensify the contour. I mixed a combination of NW45 and CH2 from my PAM pallet. Once i had corrected the colour i was extremely happy.

I was happy with the lip colour i created and felt it worked well with the eyes.

Over all i was happy with my look and can't wait to practice this look on myself.

This was a practise at home on a friend who had never worn a smokey eye before so we didn't want to fo too drastic. She loved the finished result
