03-11-15 Straight blow dry

Today we were asked to create a straight blow dry on our heads.

Kanika suggested we trim the ends of the hair to create an even finish. She taught us how to trim the ends of the hair to one lenght this is known as the one cut.

As a class she showed us a demonstration

Kanika taught us how to hold the scissors. Explaining that the thumb should be the only finger that moves and the others fingers support the scissors especially the little finger.

After watching the demonstration we attempted to cut our block heads

Before i began i made sure my work area and equipment were clean.

I set up my work area with correct brushes, combs, butterfly clips and a water spray.

I made sure all bags were out of the way and any leads to make sure there wasn't a falls risk

I checked my electrial euipment was safe to use

Placed a towel on the floor for any drips of water

At first i really struggled hair styling isn't something which comes naturally to me

We wet down the head before cutting the hair

As an addition to the lesson she trimmed all the stray ends from the hair creating a soft sleeker style to the hair. We cut about 2inchs off the ends and feathered the hair around the face.

Step by step

Setion the damp hair into 4 sections using a butterfly clip. This keeps the hair under control while you are styling the hair.

Unsection a small even amout of hair at the nape of the neck. Trying to keep the sections straight

Next put the brush under the hair at the root. Keeping tension on the hair i then concentrated drying the root area first directing the air flow down to close the cuticle. Angle the dryer down as you move it down the hair. To create root lift, blow dry at at 45 degree angle

Once the root was dry keep the hair taut and continue down the length of the hair. Moving the brush and keeping the airflow continuous at all times. Ensuring you keep the air flow down this makes sure the hair shaft lie flat and prevents frizzing making the hair look smooth

Keep repeating this step. remove the brush so the hair is resting on the dryer to hold the length of the hair. move the brush back to start from near the root again. Contine until the hair is fully dry

Move onto the next section repeating all the above steps . Always dry root to point. This ensures the cuticle lies flat.

Once at the front of the hair i wanted to shape the face so slightly cured the hair slightly away from the face.

Evaluation

I have learnt this skill on my previous course but blowdrying was a part of hair styling i really struggled with. I practiced daily to try and correct my skills so i now find blowdrying straight alot easier and it is something i feel confident with. I was extremly happy with how smooth and frizz free my hair was with slight volume and curl at the front of the face shaping the face. The area i need to practice and still need alot of improvement is a curly blow dry so i will practise this skill more as i love the classic look it creates.

The curl at the front of the hair can also be achieved by rollers, I did manage to achieve this but only quickly on one side of the face. I much prefer how this looks compared to the blowdry curl. I have practied the thecinque of applying rollers and feel fairly confident with my knowledge
