09-11-15 Editorial and Ombre Lip
Today Holly showed us how to complete and editorial and Ombre Lip. Holly taught us a red editorial lip followed by an ombre lip.
To save time we practiced an ombre lip omber over the editorial lip we had just created which wasn't ideal as some of our products weren't quite dark enogh to make the contrast. Ombre Lips should go from dark to light to dark again
Before she began she prepped her model making sure she had no allergies to products or contraindications which would prevent the treatment. Holly prepped the models skin and lips making sure they were free from any dirt and makeup. She made sure the model was comfortable. Ensuring your work area is clean and tidy. A bag or bin for disposables. Making sure all bags are tidied away to prevent any trip or falls. Making sure hands and clean and sanitized before and during the treatment. All brushed must be cleaned before use to prevent cross contamination. Fresh breath Is a must and not invading the models personal space
As we are mainly focusing on the lip today Holly explained the importance of prepping the lips
•Firstly checking the condition making sure there in no infections or dryness/chapping
•Next she suggested to apply a lip balm to nourish the lips and Lip primer to help the product stay in place and be long lasting
Although the focus of this lesson is the Lip. Skin is still a key point to the look. Bold lip clean skin. If the skin isn't finished correctly this can affect the total outcome of the whole look and take away the effectiveness of the bold lip. A few tips Holly told us:
•To make the Lips appear bigger: over draw the lips slightly over the lipline
•To make the Lips appear smaller: slightly under draw the lips
•Lip erase by MAC is a great product if you are creating more than one look on a model during a shoot. The product comes in Pale and Dim
•Use a double mirror to check with symmetry this allows you to look at top and bottom lips
•Use a slightly light concealer palette around mouth areas can make the lips stand out
Holly carried out the demonstration and after taking notes she asked us to work in pairs and create the two looks ourselves. Firstly starting with the Editorial Lip and then moving on to an Ombre Lip

Step By step
Editorial Lip
•To begin I followed all of the above health and safety procedures
•Next I prepped the models skin cleansing and moisturising. I didn't want to focus too much on the skin today but it's great to practice every lessons as a perfect base helps create the rest of the makeup. I buffed a mixture of C1 and C3 face and body over my models face.
•After I concealed any areas of pigmentation and blemishes using
•Moving on to the lip I buffed concealer over the lip to help prime the lip.
•Next using Ruby woo ensuring it was sharpe I drew on the lip line. Starting from the cupids bow using the flat part of the pencil.
•Once happy with the outline of the liner starting at the bottom I filled in the center of the lips with the same liner. I then did the sides of the lips pulling the side slightly taught making sure I had colored the corners.
•After the step tidy the edges using the concealer brush to neaten the look. Using a mixture of Ruby Woo and Russian Red I applied to the lip with a lip brush slightly pushing the skin to give me more control and to make the lip lightly pop making it easier.
•To mattify the look put a thin layer of tissue on the lip and blot with translucent powder. Reapply the lip colour on top of this
•Again tidy around the lip with a concealer brush with a small amount of concealer. Go back in with the lip liner if needed
•Step away from the model to check symmetry
Ombre Lip
•Using Plum Lip Liner I lined the outline of my models already red lip
•My next step was to fill in the corners of the lip. This needs to be the darkest area. I built up the colour using layers to darker the pigment
•I then used Lady Danger on the center of the lips to lighten the area to give me the contrast I needed
•To complete the Ombre look I added neon orange MAC pigment to the center to make it pop
•Finishing the look I sharpened the edge using the plum lip lines and used a small amount of concealer on a brush to tidy the edges around the lip
I have lost all my picture of Jo's Ombre lips my SD card corupted and deleted most of my imges. I recreated this look on myself at home

After completing todays lesson I have learnt just how complicated creating the perfect lip can be. It was something I didn't think I would struggle too much with but however I did. My main worry and concern was getting symmetry of the lip and having a smooth edge to the lip. The trick Holly taught us cleaning the edges with a concealer brush was brilliant and I felt really polished off my look and sharpened the edge. I felt a lot more confident with the editorial lip than the Ombre lip. This may have been because it was the first time I had recreated the look myself and lacked confidence. At first I felt it appeared messy by after the lighter pigmentation to the center of the lip it help create the contrast and gave and amazing finish.
The main thing I felt unhappy about was the symmetry of the lip. Also the colour intensity i need to work on patting on a building a stronger colour Once stepping away from my model and accessing my look it was apparent. This is a skill I need to practice and work on. I need to remember to use my mirror and step away from the model

I have practised a red lip a few times since this lesson on Models. I am feeling alot more confident about the neatness of my lip applications but feel i need to work on the colour intensity and lining the lip.
I lost my Ombre lip picutres which i was extremly upset about. I tried the look on myself at home. It didn't photograph too well. I feel like i need to work on my lip shapes when usinga dark colour and make sure the lip is symetrical. I didn't have the correct products so i don't feel the contrast was as strong as i would of liked it. I used a Kiko Eyeliner and Pink lipstick and applied a highlighter to finsh the Ombre Lip. Symetry is my main problem with lips especially as most peoples lips are not the same both sides
Although I need alot more practice i really enjoy being creative with the lips.
