Tanya Taylor ss15 Final Assesment
Today was the day we had our assement. I was very very nervous. I am a massive worrier about my makeup skills. I still can't beleive i got on to the course. I presented a mood board with a face chart, product list, timings and step by step.
My Model for today was the beautiful Rosa who has the most perfect plump lips which are great for the look I am recreating Tanya Taylor Spring Summer 2015. I choose this look to recreate because i love the choice of Lip colour. I love how bold, strong and fresh the look is. I adore the dewy glwoing skin look and the contrast of the lip which compliments the Models outfits during the ss15 collection
I started todays lesson by prepping Rosa's Skin. I allowed myself between 15 to 20 minuets to do this. It is very important and helps improve the circulation blood flow and plumpness to the skin. I used a soothing products on the skin. Rosa has good skin tone and is fairly blemish free.
My next stage was to apply foundation. I used Nw50 pro-conceal over the entire face. I applied the product using a buffing brush and buffing into the skin. I concealed any necessary areas and highlighter the under eye area and cheeks. This was a very obvious part of the Tanya Taylor look and gave the skin a fresh highlighted dewy feel which is exactly what i was trying to recreate. I used Topshop's glow in gleam and polished. The skin application was one of the main focus to the look so i allowed myself 20 minuets.
Moving on the eyes which was a very shuttle part of this look. During my practice the colour wasn’t defined as much as i would of liked so for my final look i added the sleek highlight colour over the whole lid up to the crease. Applying a lighter colour first meant when i added the orange coloured eyeshadow it would have slightly more pigment than in previous attempt. I added minimal mascara to the lashes i did not want a dramatic look and this helps to keep the attention on the lips.
The main focus the beautiful bold orange lip. This was the main reason i wanted to recreated this look. I love the fact they have been different and slightly experimented and come away from the classic red catwalk look. The orange was bold bright unique and fresh. During my practice the colour became a big issue with me. Due to my budget i unfortunately couldn’t afford to buy myself the Nars orange lip product so i had to use products within my budget. In my mac college kit i have lady danger and mac red i decided these would be a good combination. I started by lining Rosas lip with Ruby woo i then filled in the entire lip with the lip pencil. I wanted a strong base colour. I then applied a mixture of the mac lipsticks but still this wasn’t orange enough. I had a kiko number 5 from the matte collection. This was my chosen product to add intensity. I pat this on using a lip brush
Overall now I have finally completed a whole fashion look. I feel a lot more confident in my skills. I worked to my timescale and finisheded my look in the allocated time. I have learnt that fashion makeup is very different to normal every day makeup. The skin is flawless and generally minimal makeup is visible on the skin which can be very difficult to achieve especially if the model doesn't have particularly good skin. This is why skin prep and helping the blood flow the help a healthy glow is so important. Good glowing skin makes your job that tiny bit easier. I was happy with my skin prep and feel it helped with my foundation application. My skin was well moisturised which helped the product apply smoothly to the skin. I was pleased with my overall skin coverage I feel it looked natural yet well covered with a glow. My main weakness on the skin I have found is covering the under eye area and making sure the product is worked into the skin. Once I had nearly finished the makeup i made sure I worked back over the under eye area ensuring I had used the correct colours and correctly applied the product as in previous attempt there was a slight build up where i had not rubbed the product in enough.
My main critic of the eye area was the colour choice I had to apply a lighter colour to the base of the lid before applying the orange colour, without the lighter base colour the orange was not visible. Mascara went well on the lashes. I lined the lips with red liner and from my previous trial the colour of the lipstick was not intense enough so I decided to colour the lip with the liner which acts as a base. Next I mixed the 2 Mac lip colours but this wasn't bright enough so I patted on Kiko Number 5. I found the product application hard. To begin with I used a small brush which kept dragging off the product. As I had large lips to work with I used a bigger lip brush to apply the kiko colour. This helped with the product intensity as it didn't drag the product from the lip. A patting method was the best form of application. I was still not completely happy with my colour application my main issue was the products I had available. I was happy with the lip shape and the neatness of my lipstick application
