Term 2 Week 3 25th January Black and White Editorial

Today was all about black and White Editorial makeup

Black and white makeup is about tone and depth

Colours appear different in Black and White Pictures many can appear grey. When doing an editorial black and white photo remeber do not look in colour look in tone

Black adn white Photographic makeup can look flat and one dimentinal if there isn't a contour or highlight. Generally blusher isnt used because it doesn't show. It is important to scult the face with highlight and contour

Use black or white for boldness or sharpness

Colour for grey tone

Be versitile with products. Vaseline, oils and cream highlighters work best for black and white photography. Never powder all over the face

When carry out a makeup for a black and white phoographic shoot you begin to analyise in a very different way. To the naked eye you may feel you have enough product but through a photographic lense this is very different.

Holly did a demonstration on Robyn

This side was a strong contour and highlight

This was the more natural side

Products used today

Mac face and body C1 and C3 mixed

Mac Full Coverage NW15

Mac Strobe Cream

Kyrolan Translucnet powder

Sleek Medium Contour pallette

Mac Sculpt

Mac Haute and naughty Mascara

Taupe Eye shadow

Rose Vaseline

Black grease paint

Black eye liner

Soap and Glory Shimmer

I started by applying Mac face and body over the face. I combined a mixture of C1 and C3 to make the skin tone i needed. I aslo mixed in strobe cream for a glow

I concealed using D32 and brightened the under eye area using NW15

Next I highlighted the skin to give an extra glow. I kept anaylising the skin in the black and white camera and added more product as i needed it. I used a combination of the mac sculpt and the sleek contour pallete to contour. For the highlight i used the Sleek highlighter and added a cream soap and glory highlight on top

For the eye i used taupe in the crease to define the eye. To create a glossy lid i added a pink tinted vaseline.

My model had eyelash extensions so i just added mascara to the bottom lashes

For the lip at first i tried Croma line by Mac. I do not like this product for lip application as it is drying. I decided to line the lip with Black eyeliner and filled in with Black Grease paint. This worked well and gave a much better finish. I relined the lip and cleaned the outline

My look is now complete

I was happy with my final image. I love how it looks in a black and white camera. I enjoyed this lesson because it is something i have never done before. It was interesting to see how it looked different to the natural human eye and in a black and white camera lense. The black lip gave a bold impact. The glossy eyes gave a slight shine which the camera picked up well. The contours and highlights showed up extremly well in the photographic lense. I am very pleased wih my makeup today.

I loved this look i practiced a few looks on my housemates and myself and used a black and white camera to see how the looks came out. I was fairy happy with them and have learnt with photo shoots especially black and white alot more makeup is needed for it to be effective
