Term 2 Week 5 8th February Phyllis Cohen Face Lace inspired makeup

I wasn't looking forward to today's lesson. I knew it was something i was going to really struggle with. Makeup is my passion and i love it however i am not great with artistic fine detail. I am not confident with my drawing skills when i have to create something neat. I knew today's lesson would be a challenge and it was.

For inspiration on face lace i have looked up the work of phyllis cohen. It is amazing. I wish i had this type of artistic skills. You can also buy Facelace transfer to apply to the skin

These designs are creative bold and inspiring to me. It shows how creative makeup can be and proves there really are no boundrys

We watched Holly complete a demonstration. She began by blocking the brows and then creating the face lace

I had an issue with my glue application and then we realised that although my models skin was makeup free she has used some bio oil which was preventing the Pritt stick from sticking. I found it was going lumpy and i was applying the glue across the hair rather than up. I removed the product with miscellar water and started again.

This time i combed through the hair and brushed the hair upwards this helps to remove the bulk. When applying the glue i applied it to the hair in an upwards motion. My model had dark hair so i had to keep layer the glue making sure it didn't go lumpy and had covered all the hair.

Once i was happy with the glue application i applied D14 and D16 and NW45 full coverage. Although this is a foundation it is a concealer texture. I pat the product on with a sponge and powdered in between layers with translucent powder

To create my models foundation i mixed a combination of NW45 and NC15. I was lucky enough to create her skin tone on my first attempt. I buffed the product into the skin and powdered well before my next step

This was the part i was most worried about. Using a thin brush and Mac Blacktrack ( which im not a fan of) I created a design on Natalies face. All the images i found were too complicated for my skill range so i created a desgin from the top of my head which never works well for me

Once i had added a few swirls which i was not happy with at all i finished by patting glitter on the design which helped with the quality. (glitter helps everything)

Overall this was an interesting thecnique to learn and helped me with fine detail and neat lines. However it is not for me this isn't an area i feel very skilled in. I struggled with the darkness of black track as it is a eyeliner it is thick and not smooth so i dont think its the best consistancy for this. Holly had Mac Acyrilic paint which Natalie tried on me and the finish was alot better and the application felt alot smoother. If i ever had to do this design again i think i would invest in that to make my life easier
