The photo shoot Evaluation
I decided to do my photo shoot while i was at home in Devon as i know more people. I used social media to source my model and photographer. I use a friend in North Devon who had done previous photography shots and modeling work within North Devon.
We advertised for a photographer on Facebook we used a page called North Devon Models, photograhers & MUA
From this we found a photographer called Trude. Trude has been a makeup artist for 32 years and in the past 18months has decided to study photography so it is still very new to her. She normally just photgraphs her own work so this was a good opportunity for her aswell to show off her skills and her ability to work with others as a photographer. Ria has done photo shots before so Trude was happy to help us both out as it can go in to all 3 of our portfolios.
Im so glad i got to do this and very glad i had to opportunity to work with Trude and it has definetly helped me build a working relationships in Devon. She has posted my work on her social media and i have recived positive compliments. This has helped my confidence massively as i doubt my work alot. In return i have also recommend her as she is very good at what she does and makes the model feel it ease which in turn helps with the pose. It was great to work with her and gain experience from someone who has been in the industry in my home town
I went to the shoot with my Love magazine in hand and an idea in my head. Love has two very different looks for there front covers a raw natural beauty or theatrical. I decided to stick to my comfort zone and stick with natural beauty. I am confident in skin
My photographer Trude is a makeup artist and she could tell i was very nervous this was my first ever photoshot. I felt more under pressure because i knew she was a professional with 32 years experience. She suggested while i was with her i should do 2 looks as this would help me get out of my comfort zone. I decided to do a natural look and a look with blue eye shadow which is a big SS16 trend
This was my reference for the natural look
The second look the SS16 blue look. I actually found this at last minute while i was looking for inspiration this is a Pat Mcgrath makeup on Kylie Jenner for NYFW SS16
Love has a specific pose so i wanted to use this for my cover. It is a serious and seductive pose. I haven't seen a cover with a model who is smiling
I was extremly lucky with my shoot. Trude spent a lot of time with me making sure the images were perfect. We used various colour backdrops a white, red, black and multicoloured. The bright coloured one was too much going on with the make up. The black made it look too dark. The white was clean and fresh but the red made it pop. I wanted a floral feel so we decided to lie Rhea down on a bed in Trudes studio and cover her in rose petals. I absolutely love this idea and it is perfect for my magazine as it often uses props to enhance the hair and makeup
These are my final looks
Working on a shoot is different to a lesson you. You have to make sure you have everything you need as you can't ask to borrow things. I am a very organised person but packing my stuff i kept worrying i was going to forget something
One the day of the shoot my ideas drastically changed. I went with one idea of a look in my head. Natural glowing skin and natural wavy hair. I ended up doing two the natural and a more colourful eye which i created on the spot from an image i liked. I found this challenging but also very helpful to me and shows i can work on the spot and deal with last minuet request which a makeup artist needs to be able to do
After looking at the images i was happy with both but i surprising prefered the image with the blue eyeshadow.Trude put about 6 images on a disk for me. I think it is becasue for me this is not something i'm normaly happy doing but it photographed well. Especially with the Roses it added extra effect. I feel this look shows off my makeup skills more and shows how i have developed since starting the course
After looking at my final image i am happy with my colour choice and feel it worked well with the look. I am extremly happy with the skin coverage and the highlight especially the cupids bow area
After looking closely at the imahe i feel i could of made a slight improvement to the brow makeup to make them look more define and symmetrical. I liked the eyeshadow colour and intensity but to improve the look i would of like to have made the colour difference slightly more intense by using a slightly different shade of green on the lower lash line. I think i blended and faded the colours out well but they eyes are not 100% symetrical i much prefer the left eye
The shot taught me alot. I learnt how important it is to create working relationships and build connections with people. In turn you can help each other into the industry and makes networking alot easier. As Trude is a makeup artist herself she has a small room she uses as a makeup studio so i was lucky enough to have a chair desk and a mirror which helped me work.
I set all my products out in a professional manner and followed all health and safety as always.
